Fundraising Manager – Bids and Campaigns

Reports to: Business Development Director

Purpose: to manage the fundraising activities for Chrysalis and Opoka

Contract length: 12 Month initial contract

Hours: Full time (37.5)

Salary: up to £25k per annum, depending on experience

Location: Bristol office with flexibility to work from home


Chrysalis Supported Association is a rapidly growing non-profit organisation that helps some of the most vulnerable people to improve their lives. We provide:

Ø specialist housing to vulnerable adults with learning difficulties and/or mental health problems across the UK.

Ø housing and support to people with drug and alcohol problems.

Ø specialist support for survivors of domestic violence through our subsidiary Opoka.

We have an exciting new role for a fundraising manager to develop and deliver our fundraising activity. The foundations of the role are in place and the role is supported by a senior fundraising specialist, so there is a platform and opportunity to for the role shape and develop sustainable income channels to enable Chrysalis and Opoka to continue to achieve positive outcomes for local people.

You will be a talented and motivated individual, with fundraising and bid writing experience. Ideally you will also have experience of securing income from individual donors or have communications and marketing experience.

You will work closely the fundraising specialist and senior management to grow income from Trusts, Foundations and Institutional donors and you will manage the development of new fundraising channels including digital.

Ø The main initial focus of the role will be to secure grants from trusts and foundations and to build a regular donation scheme.

Ø We are looking for someone who has proven experience at developing successful proposals (in the region of £20-£80k) and securing funding of at least £200k per annum from multiple fundraising channels.

Ø It is essential that you have bid writing experience for organisations with charitable objectives.

Ø It is desirable that you have community fundraising and digital experience to generate income from individuals.

Main duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Ø Develop and implement fundraising plans to meets the needs of the organisation.

Ø Research appropriate sources of funding to create a strong pipeline of trusts and foundations willing to support our work.

Ø Liaise with colleagues to develop a thorough understanding of funding requirements.

Ø Write, submit and follow-up bids in a targeted and effective manner – this will include financial and non- financial business case development.

Ø Develop and deliver the individual and community fundraising plans to increase the number and value of regular individual donors.

Ø Network with potential partners and funders to keep in touch with opportunities.

Ø Maintain a good knowledge of, and ensure all activities comply with, fundraising regulations.

Ø Collaborate with the finance and delivery teams to develop plans, costs and business cases.

Person Specification Essential
Ø At least 3 years’ experience working in a fundraising role focussing on bid writing.

Ø Experience of the whole funding cycle: understanding needs, researching donors, writing applications, securing funding, ensuring delivery, managing relationships.

Ø Able to work with delivery colleagues to understand their needs and ambitions and to translate those into successful bids.

Ø Able to write successful bids: track record of securing grants of £10,000 and above.

Ø Hands-on with an ability to get stuck-in as part of a small team.

Ø A strong understanding of fundraising regulation, and the application of fundraising policies.

Ø Able to initiate innovative fundraising ideas and to take advantage of new opportunities.

Ø Good IT literacy including funder databases.

Ø Ability to prioritise deadlines and manage multiple projects.

Ø Strong reporting and presentation skills.

Ø Must be legally entitled to work in the UK and will be required to undergo a DBS check.


Ø Membership of the Institute of Fundraising.

Ø Experience of digital fundraising channels.

Ø Experience of writing promotional material, supporting and implementing press campaigns, social media campaigns, writing press releases and building media contacts.

Ø Experience of supervising community volunteers.
